Download this program and install (it is self installing):

*Now, you COULD be adventurous and fire her up and go full speed ahead here if you want. There is quite an extensive help system in pIRCh. However, the less adventurous will want to read the following instructions that will help you connect to Ascends.Net:

FOR 32bit pIRCh:
To add servers:

  1. On the top menu, click on IRC, SERVER LIST.
  2. In the top frame, where all the little computers are, right click and choose: NEW.
  3. You'll see a computer with NEW highlighted under it. Type in: Ascends.Net and hit return.
  4. With Ascends.Net highlighted on top, right click in the bottom frame, and select: NEW.
  5. A new window will pop-up, type in the server's address.

For Ascends.Net, it's:
hurricane.va.us.ascends.net
ports: 6667,6668,6669,7000

(For more servers please see the server list at left or go to the Ascends.Net Home Page.)

  1. Click OK
  2. Click on Close

Now, close out this screen by hitting the little X up in the right hand side.

FOR 16bit pIRCh:
To add servers:

  1. Click on EDIT SERVER LIST
  2. Click on ADD
  3. Another window will pop-up, type in the info:
    hurricane.va.us.ascends.net
    ports: 6667,6668,6669,7000

(For more servers please see the server list at left or go to the Ascends.Net Home Page.)

    NetWork ID: Ascends.Net

  4. Click OK

Before you leave, you might want to highlight the new address you've just put in (it's over in the window all the way at the bottom). Then Highlight the new address, and click the move-up button until it's at the top, then click CLOSE.

FOR 32bit & 16bit:

  1. Click on LOGIN.

  1. Where it says "IRC Network" (there's probably something called Undernet in there), click on the arrow, and you will see the list of servers. At the very bottom should be Ascernds.Net, click on it and it will be put in the window. Where it says "Server", scroll down to hurricane.va.us.ascends.net and make sure it is also showing in the window. Leave the "Password" field blank unless you know for sure that you need one. To change the Server List at any time, click on "Edit Server List".
  2. Where it says "Personal Information", you must fill in the blanks properly to connect. However, please DO NOT put your real name or real e-mail address in the blanks (yes, I know this is confusing)! What goes in the blanks is almost anything BUT what they ask for. In the "Name" field can go a quote or a silly name or a little bit of info about yourself. It really doesn't matter what is in this field, although be aware that people will see this when they ask for info about you. In the "e:mail" field goes anything BUT your real e-mail address as long as it IS your real provider. For example, if your e-mail address is whatever@erols.com, put anythingelse@erols.com.
  3. Where it says "Logon Nick Names", put two proposed nicknames in the "Nickname" and "Alternate" fields. These nicknames should be unusual enough to ensure that no one "owns" them. If you find yourself getting "killed" off before you can get connected properly, try changing these to more unusual ones. Make sure the box next to "Invisible on Server" is checked off for extra security.

Now click on CONNECT... Then click on CONNECT again!
(If you click on the AUTO CONNECT box in the SERVER CONNECTION screen, it will just connect without you having to click connect a second time.)

You should get something like:
NOTE: Attempting to connect to whatever.

* Once you've connected, you can click on the CHANNELS button, to get a listing of all the channels that Ascends.Net has to offer. If you do a right click in the channel screen, and click on Zoom Channel List, you will get another screen showing all the channels, plus a message next to the room usually telling you what the room is about, and the number of people in that room. To get out of this screen, just right click and click on Zoom Channel List again. You can either, double click on the room you want to go to, or type:

/join #QuiltChat

This will put you into the chat channel (room).

Once you are connected to Ascends.Net, you can use the Ascends.Net services (ChanServ, NickServ and MemoServ). You can learn a lot about these by typing "/nickserv help" at any time. You can also download servhelp.txt (a text file of the commands available).
