Channel Policies and Rules

[If You are Banned From #QuiltChat™ ]
[The #QuiltChat™ Wanted List]

* We at #QuiltChat™ want to make your visits as pleasant as possible. Although we don't have rules for chatting, per se, and want you to feel free to discuss what is on your mind at all times, we list here our policies regarding the channel.

We reserve all right to deny access to this channel to any user, host or domain without warning or explanation.

* Who is Welcome?

In a word: Quilters! All others will be tolerated at the discretion of the Channel Operator(s) on duty, depending on their behavior. We reserve all right to deny access to this channel to any non-quilter without warning or explanation.

* Who is Not Welcome?

Our ChanOps perform a /whois on all newcomers to the channel. The following people will be summarily kicked and banned from #QuiltChat™ immediately:

bulletAnyone promoting another chat in our channel.
bulletPhreakers of any description - known phreakers, anyone on any phreaker channel and anyone wearing any indication of phreaker activity in their mask.
bulletNon-friendly hackers - known hackers, anyone on any hacker channel and anyone wearing any indication of hacker activity in their mask unless they are known to be friendly.
bulletAny known member of the PLA (Phone Losers of America).
bulletAnyone on any sex channel.
bulletAnyone whose mask (whois info) or nickname bears offensive words and/or content.
bulletAnyone suspected of or who enters the channel with the expressed or implied purpose of picking up women or trolling.
bulletAnyone who has been previously banned from #QuiltChat™ under another mask or nickname. NOTE: A Ban from #QuiltChat™ is usually permanent and we will not remove a legitimate ban until we find out the troublemaker is no longer with that provider or no longer permitted on Ascends.Net.

* Language:

We prefer to ban/kick on language context, not content. For example, "You bitch!" is an entirely different thing that "Life's a bitch, and then ya die". If the language is said for shock value (verbal exhibitionism), then banning will be done immediately, depending on severity. Immediate banning will take place for vicious verbal attacks involving bad language. Both will be reported to Ascends.Net officials. Otherwise, a warning will be given in query first or a warning kick done, depending on severity. If the person returns and there are no more instances, then that person will be left alone. If they persist, they will be banned.

*Soliciting:

For those of our guests who may also be professionals in the world of quilting, either as artists, resellers, merchants or shops, we are pleased to have you, as an individual, join us.  However, we must ask that you refrain from using our channel for the purposes of advertising or solicitation of business. A link to your business can be added to our home page if you would like, but #QuiltChat™ does not permit advertising or solicitation of any sort unless you are donating your services as speaker or sponsor.

We must also ask that you refrain from soliciting for or promoting other chats in #QuiltChat at all times.  If our ChanOps surmise that you are attracting away chatters to another chat channel, you will be warned once, then summarily kicked and banned.

* Behavior:

A Channel Operator's job is to make the channel as pleasant as possible for well-behaved chatters. Anyone that interferes with another chatter's enjoyment will be watched carefully. ChanOps will judge these situations as they occur and act in their own best judgment. Warnings will be issued as necessary and kicking will be done as a warning. Persistence will require banning. We will not tolerate verbal attacks on other chatters, trolling, disruption of the chat, offensive behavior or verbal exhibitionism.

*Idling/Lurking:

Please don't "idle" in #QuiltChat.  If you are away from the keyboard for more then 10 minutes or so and still logged on, you will probably be kicked.  Just rejoin the channel when you get back and remember to part the channel before going "away" for long periods of time.  Only founders and "top ops" may idle in #QuiltChat.

* Flooding:

The first sign of a nickname flooder is usually a quick series of nickname changes. If you begin to change your nickname quickly and repeatedly, you will be banned and kicked immediately.

Also, as soon as someone inputs more than a few lines of material at once or begins to execute repeated CTCP commands, they will be banned and kicked immediately. NOTE: huge pop-ups and typing the same line repeatedly are both considered flooding, as well. If it is found later to have been an accident, that person will be unbanned after receiving a warning. Ascends.Net frowns heavily on flooding, as it causes splits, and it is our responsibility to prevent it, if possible.

* Takeover Attempts:

Any non-Op coming back from splits with Op status will be DeOpped, kicked and banned immediately, unless well known to be friendly by the other ChanOps. If it is found later to have been an accident, that person will be unbanned. If any person is suspected of trying to takeover the channel, regardless of the method, they will be reported to the Ascends.Net K-line Team immediately, as will anyone caught attempting to use one of our ChanOp's registered nicknames.

* Things that will get you reported immediately to Ascends.Net officials and banned from Ascends.Net (as well as #QuiltChat™ ):

  1. Trolling.
  2. Flooding.
  3. Clonebots.
  4. Unfriendly bots.
  5. Harassment of ANY kind.
  6. Kiddy porn trading.
  7. Hacking.
  8. Channel and nickname takeovers.
  9. Evading channel bans or k-lines.
  10. Evading user ignores.
  11. Abuse of services (NickServ, ChanServ, MemoServ).
  12. ICMP bombs or nuking of any kind (we log nuking attempts).
  13. Email bombs.

NOTE: trolling is an age-old internet term (mostly found on usenet) that describes the act of going into an IRC channel, chat room, message board, BBS, or newsgroup for the express intent of causing an argument, starting trouble or ridiculing.  It is generally viewed as a VERY annoying and infantile game in which the players try to see how fast they can get banned.

* If You Find Yourself Banned From #QuiltChat™ :

If you are a legitimate quilter and have not done any of the above and you find yourself banned from #QuiltChat™, chances are that you are the victim of a provider ban. We do NOT ban well behaved quilters. Sometimes, the only way to get rid of a troublemaker is to ban his/her entire provider (ISP). Unfortunately, if you happen to share this provider, the ban will also affect you. Should this happen to you, please contact ScrappyBlue@QuiltChat.com and ask about the feasibility of removing this ban. If at all possible, we will remove the ban and let you in. If this is not possible, please be patient. You will be able to get back in as soon as the ban is no longer needed.

We hope to see you soon in #QuiltChat™ !
